[Tallarn Desert Raider] FW Heavy Bolter Turret Emplacement

I moved and had little time for the hobby.
But now, the new mancave is slowly taking shape and I find more time to build and paint some miniatures. The first painted piece is a Forgeworld Heavy Bolter Turret Emplacement for my Tallarn army:

[Tallarn Desert Raider] More Tallarn Infantry

I did it! I painted the last Tallarn miniature from my pile of shame.

With it and thirteen other miniatures painted, this army project comes to an end.

(Okay, I will paint one last big model for the army, but that's it.)

[Tallarn Desert Raider] Primaris Psyker & Sanctioned Psykers

I work hard to finish my Tallarn army. Therefore, here are some mistrusted but needed reinforcements.

[Tallarn Desert Raiders] More converted Rough Riders

I've been busy and have finally finished painting five more converted Tallarn Rough Riders.

The squad will probably not be playable with the plasma weapons under the new codex rules, but I can use the legacy rules instead. Now I have 14 normal Tallarn Troopers ahead of me to finish the army project (after more than 130 minis and about 25 vehicles).

Imperial Navy: Thunderbolt Heavy Fighter

To finish my Tallarn army, I painted more air support: a Thunderbolt Heavy Fighter.

As with my other flyers, the colour scheme is that of a Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighter plane. I just like the stong conrast. I started to paint this flyer at least two years ago but lost interest because the model was heavily warped. Last weak, I fixed this issue with my hairdryer and a lot of patience.

The weapon loadout does not seem possible anymore. Fortunally, the rockets are magnetized, should anyone be annoyed.

[Tallarn Desert Raiders] Heavy Bolter Teams

It took some time, but I finished my last Heavy Support Weapon Teams for my Tallarn Desert Raiders - 3 Heavy Bolter Teams:

With them the infantry/cavalry part of the army looks like this:

When I'm through with the rest of the infantry, I'll do a big army shot with all the vehicles. This is one of my hobby goals for this year.

[Tallarn Desert Raiders] Just another Infantry Squad

I've painted another ten men Tallarn Infantry Squad!

Here are some work in progress pictures:

Now it is time for something different before it gets too boring.

[Tallarn Desert Raiders] Heavy Support Teams

About ten years ago, I painted my first Tallarn Heavy Weapon Models. At that time, I didn't get full squads of Rocket Launchers and Autocannons together. That's why I painted up these models over the last few days:

And here are the now completed Rocket Launcher and Autocannon squads:

[Tallarn Desert Raiders] Reinforcements have arrived

I decided to finally finish my Tallarn Desert Raiders army. So, I painted ten random Tallarn infantrymen from my pile of shame. These are the first Tallarn I have painted for about four years! There are more to come...

Imperial Navy - Aeronautica Imperialis: Vendetta

I bought an assembled but unpainted self-built Vendetta on eBay. I changed only one or two things and started painting. For the first time, I used oil washes on a model and it worked pretty well. I choose this grey-yellow colour scheme because my Avenger Strike Fighter has the same. Right now there exists no background to this squadron, but I will see to that at some point in the future.

Here is a picture of the model before I applied the oil washes. At this point the cockpit windshields were still transparent. But after I glued them on, they became foggy due to the fumes of the glue and I decided to paint them by hand.

Tallarn Desert Raiders - Sergeants

Since plasma pistols became a viable weapon option again it made sense to me to paint some miniatures with plasma pistols. So I went for two of those classic pewter models of Tallarn Desert Raiders sergeants.

Blood for the Blood God! - Sadly.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to lead a part of my Custodes against Captain_Valerius' Chaos army into battle. Captain_Valerius had the first move and immediately stormed forward. Hello, first turn charge!

It even went so far that at the beginning of my second turn I was about to throw in the towel. But I kept going and it became a very exciting game eventually. It lasted six moves and I even almost won.

My list contained units of the Custodes, the Astra Miliarum and Roboute Guilliman (aka "the Emperor"). However, this mix was not optimal and the units did not work well together (besides Guilliman's reroll bubble). One reason more to quickly paint more Custodes. : D

Thanks to Captain_Valerius for the nice and exciting evening!

Here are a few game impressions:

At last a size comparison picture of some of the newer walkers:

Making of a Desert Gaming Board - Part IV

As I am still in need for some desert area terrain, I returned to my workbench. I came up with the idea of some huge bones/skeleton, like on Tatooine or on the planet from the movie Pitch Black. The Playmobil "4803 Ghost Whale Skeleton" was a good base to start from and you can get those things cheap on eBay for a few bucks.

I glued the skeleton on a base, filled the insides of the rips with putty and painted it. It is large enough to provide cover for most infantry and cavalry units. As you can see in the picture above, there is more to come. What do you think?

Imperial Navy - Aeronautica Imperialis: Avenger Strike Fighter (Finished)

This model was really fun to paint and not just a because I've never painted so much with yellow before. I used the yellow of Mr. Hobby (Aqueous Hobby Color) and that worked quite well. The color scheme based on that of a Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighter plane and I hope you like my version it. The Avenger Strike Fighter will hopefully provide the needed aerial fire support for my armies of the Imperium.

WIP - Avenger Strike Fighter

I'm sure some of you know this situation. You have a spontaneous idea, you buy something and as soon as it arrives, all zest for action already subsided. This happened to me and my Avenger Strike Fighter. I bought it over a year ago and didn't even glue it together. That's why I also thought about selling it.

But since a few weeks I work on reducing my pile of shame of unfinished models and the Strike Fighter is one of them.

The primed model.

Color test on the underbelly.

Base colors applied.

Waiting for some weathering.
